There's a crow swooping towards my carefully collected pile of top hats. I am one hat away from having the most hats anyone can possibly have at once.

If I leap just right I'll dodge the bird and grab the headwear. If I get it wrong, shame and calumny will surely follow.

Max Gentlemen is all about hats. Big hats, small hats, hats perched atop the muscular brows of men who know that please and thank you are more important than anything else in the world.

It's a ridiculous game of balancing and challenging friends. And, in its own special way, it's a little bit magical.

Cultured

There are two modes in the game. One sees you challenging yourself, the other sees you challening AI compatriots. On top of that there's local multiplayer that lets you toss hats with friends and co-workers.

The controls are pretty similar across all the different challenges. Sometimes you can move left to right, nabbing beer to add hats to your pile. Other times you're fixed in a car pootling along the road.

Sliding a finger up the screen selects a hat from you pile. Lift up that finger and that hat and all the hats above it spring into the air.

You'll need to perfect this move to dodge boomerangs, crows, pigeons, hurled pints of bitter, and all manner of other projectiles that threaten to overturn your perfectly balanced hat-tower.

It makes for a surprisingly challenging experience. You need to keep an eye on the hats you're collecting, the vast number of things that are being thrown at you, and what your opponents is up to all at the same time.

Top hats

Adding another human being into the mix makes things even more interesting. And the fact you're playing in the same room means you can physically push them over to stop them from winning. Which is always fun.

Max Gentlemen is a joyously ridiculous video game experience. Its run through with a giggling sense of humour, features plenty of thrusting buttocks, and genuinely leaves you with a big grin on your face.

If that wasn't enough, there's also a challenging arcade score-chasing game under all of the madness. This is a lovely chunk of wonderfully silly iOS gaming, and should be played by as many people as possible.
