PS Vita TV (as it's known in Japan) is coming to the United States, Canada, and Europe this autumn, Sony announced today during its press conference, and it's getting a name change for the Western markets.

Renamed PlayStation TV, the device is essentially an "unconsole", like the Ouya, in so much as it's a small and only meagrely powerful device that sits under your TV and provides games, movies, TV, and music content.

As you might be able to tell from the Japanese name, the hardware is based upon the Vita. Only without the screen. Or the controls. Also it's not portable.

However, it will be able to play "most" of the Vita's library of games via the use of a DualShock 3, just so long as the game doesn't require touchscreen inputs, and PlayStation Now will allow you to stream a bunch more content too, such as PlayStation 3 games.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, then you'll be able to pick the base unit up for $99. If you'd like a controller, HDMI cable, and memory card for media storage to go with it though, you'll need to lay out a little more, as the full bundle will cost $139.

Happily, you'll get a game with that too. Unhappily, it's the somewhat underwhelming The LEGO Movie Videogame.

At the press conference the PlayStation TV news was announced, Disney Infinity 2 was casually noted to also be coming to the platform, along with a PlayStation Vita version. So that's exciting.
