Animal Crossing will not have paid downloadable content on 3DS

Would make Nintendo money, but would be 'undesirable'

Animal Crossing will not have paid downloadable content on 3DS

Nintendo may have entered the world of paid downloadable content by releasing level packs for New Super Mario Bros. 2 at £2 a pop, but never fear: it knows that DLC is not suitable for every game.

In a briefing call with investors - as found by Kotaku - Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed that the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Leaf game for Nintendo 3DS will have no DLC - even though the developer "could make a lot of money".

Iwata said, "There's a distinct possibility that a game like Animal Crossing could change into something that is played with 'the power of money', which wouldn't be desirable."

The team discussed the possibility, but have ultimately "included nothing like that in the game".

Money talks

Iwata also talked about the New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC: "We're selling additional courses, and because we're receiving feedback from people saying that they're enjoying it, I think there are a number of possibilities in that space."

After spending some time with the Coin Rush DLC in New Super Mario Bros. 2, we thought that the first few courses were "a little pricey but any hardcore Mario fan will enjoy the added challenge".

Nintendo says it will be considering DLC "on a game-by-game basis", and it's all about "finding opportunities for us to have mutual relations with our customers".
