iPhone and iPad physics-puzzler Angry Birds didn't walk away with the Game of the Year award at the annual Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, but it did score a trophy in the category of casual games.

The awards ceremony was held at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas today. Rockstar's open-world western title Red Dead Redemption took home five awards and BioWare's epic sci-fi RPG Mass Effect 2 won Game of the Year.

Angry Birds HD beat out heavy hitters like Bejeweled, Kinect Sports, and Plants vs Zombies for the casual game category.

The only other portable game to take home a trophy was the PSP's God of War: Ghost of Sparta, which was declared Portable Game of the Year.
