Since the year 2000, the majority of video games and consoles have been banned in China.

"The government thought that was the best way to protect Chinese youth from wasting their minds on video games, after a parental outcry," a market researcher at Niko Partners told Kotaku last year.

But a select few systems, and specially redesigned consoles - such as the Nintendo DS and some plug ‘n’ play TV systems - make their way over the great wall and are allowed in the country.

The same goes for the 3DS, as Nintendo has announced its upcoming three-dimensional handheld will be sold in the country, in partnership with iQue.

If that name rings a bell, you might remember Nintendo’s iQue Player, a Chinese plug-and-play controller capable of playing select N64 games. And the same company worked with Nintendo previously for the iQue DS.

The iQue 3DS is set for a Chinese launch in April, 2011.
