The problem with each country having its own App Store is that occasionally offers apply to some territories while others miss out.

This seems to be the case with EA's Mirror's Edge. The game's reportedly free in Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe today, but the sale doesn't seem to extend to US or Canadian App Stores.

Readers lucky enough to be in a country where the offer applies are in for a treat. The game casts you as Faith, a nimble, parkour-obsessed courier who spends her time leaping around a dystopian, near-future cityscape.

Pocket Gamer's Tracy Erickson gave the game a Silver Award at review, saying: "Mirror's Edge deserves all praise thrown its way - particularly for leveraging the high-resolution iPhone 4 screen for sharp visuals."

If you're not in one of the supported countries don't despair - Mirror's Edge is tipped to be tomorrow's 12 Days of Christmas freebie.

If you've missed it so far, 12 Days of Christmas is an Apple promotion that gives you a daily gift until the 6th of January. Gifts so far have included an episode of Doctor Who and the game Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Director's Cut. There's no official list of what's going to be up for grabs, but sources strongly suggest that Mirror's Edge will be the next gift.

So check your local App Store, and if you don't find a free copy of Mirror's Edge then grab yourself the 12 Days app and wait until tomorrow. The app's free, so even if the rumours are wrong you've nothing to lose.
