Nexus S launch delayed to the 22nd

The release of Samsung's Nexus S has been pushed back to the 22nd of December.

The Nexus S is set to be the flagship smartphone for Android's new iteration, Gingerbread, but things are getting pretty tight if you were hoping to unwrap one for Christmas.

It seems that limited supplies have forced retailers to postpone the phone's launch, with Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse waiting until the 22nd, and even then only being able to supply “key” stores.

Online purchases are being widely encouraged as retailers struggle to meet demand. “Instant ship delivery” promises to get your Nexus S to the nearest Carphone Warehouse branch for collection. Presumably pre-ordered phones will still reach their destinations by Wednesday, too.

There is a silver lining, despite the limited supply of handsets. The rumoured £429.99 SIM-free price point has been confrimed by Carphone Warehouse, which makes the phone a much more attractive proposition - if one that could be tricky to get hold of.
