Cartridges for Nintendo's upcoming 3DS could hold a huge 8GB data if Taiwanese site Gamrade is to believed.

The site claims the cartridge’s Taiwanese manufacturer Macronix has coughed up some precise details on the 3DS's media of choice. Nintendo is rumoured to be controlling developers in terms of how much of the cartridge’s capacity can be used. 1GB is allegedly the bare minimum required to create a 3DS game, with 2GB the limit for the time being. 2GB is four times bigger than the DS’s 512MB carts and eight times the size of the largest commercial GBA games. If the rumoured 8GB capacity is unleashed, games for the platform could be 16 times larger than games on DS. Larger, in fact, than console games stored on a single DVD.

For the time being, though, this is just a rumour.
