Brutal Fantasy - Prologue slices up App Store for free

Best known for its very gory iPhone slasher Cut Him Up!, developer Iskandar is back with another 2D button masher involving sharp objects.

As the name suggests, Brutal Fantasy - Prologue is a taster and that's why it's free. The game it's highlighting is the studio's forthcoming Brutal Fantasy: Orcs of Undermountain.

Diced orc

You take control of the lone Knight of the Blue Guard as he tries to slice his way through the numerous foes standing in his way.

The gameplay is fairly simple, with a mashable button for attack, less used ones for defend and magic, and a virtual D-pad for movement.

The enemies - mainly green skinned orcs to begin with - lumber around, occasionally throwing dynamite at you. You have to finish off each set of daily opponents, collecting gold as you do.

Inbetween these daily bouts, you can head to the shop to get new weapons and the like. Dozen of daggers and swords are available at a price, while spells include the Magic Missile, Ice Spear, Golem Skin and Berzerker.

First course

There are 40 levels in total, with Game Center support for leaderboards and achievements, although trying to log in seems to crash the game at the moment, so you're perhaps better off not doing this until an update has been released.

Equally, Brutal Fantasy - Prologue isn't a very sophisticated game, but it is free so worth checking out if you like this sort of action with RPG-lite elements. Let's just hope Brutal Fantasy: Orcs of Undermountain offers something a little more substantial.

Brutal Fantasy - Prologue is out now and free for iPhone and iPod touch.

You can get an idea about it plays in the video for Brutal Fantasy: Orcs of Undermountain below.
