After Nintendo's 3DS press event earlier this week, CEO Satoru Iwata has revealed further details of the 3DS’s wireless capabilities at a recent investor briefing.

On the subject of SpotPass, which will let the 3DS access wi-fi hotspots while in 'sleep' mode, Iwata revealed that the console will automatically update its firmware, locking out 3DSs that have been tampered with.

"We believed this to be doable because the usable ROM size for the 3DS would become much larger." Says Iwata.

Keen to not look too draconian, The Nintendo chief also gave assurances that SpotPass will add a wealth of fun new features to the 3DS, including rankings, ghost data, free software, and notifications.
