Sony Ericsson pushes X10 Android 2.1 update back to late October

If you’re a grumpy HTC or Samsung Android owner, spare a thought for those poor Sony Ericsson X10 owners.

While you’re griping over a few months delay for your Android 2.2 (FroYo) update, those in the X10 family have yet to get their long-promised upgrade to 2.1 (Éclair). The latest news on that front is yet another delay.

The company had earlier indicated that the 2.1 roll-out would begin “late Q3” – which would mean around about now. It seems that it’s now been pushed back a further month.

According to the Sony Ericsson Product Blog: “The revised plan is to start the roll-out from end of October and onwards.”

The blog apologises for the delay (kind of), and explains that, “we have had to spend some additional time on the software to really makes sure we roll-out with the right quality and user experience.”

As for the nature of the update, the blog confirms that, “all three X10 models will be updated to Android 2.1 and the Xperia X10 will also get HD video recording with continuous auto focus among many other things.”

Unfortunately, it’s planned as a “phased roll-out,” meaning you won’t all be getting your update in October. I’d say “probably this year,” but I might just jinx the whole process.
