Mark Prigg, technology correspondent at The Evening Standard, has confirmed that BBC iPlayer will be coming to the iPad, with a beta roll out on the new device's Friday debut.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Prigg says, "iPad version of the beta iPlayer site will be up and running by Friday, Erik Huggers says." Huggers is the Beeb's chief tech and media man.

The story continues on The Evening Standard's website, saying the iPad edition will "stream high definition programmes", meaning you'll be able to get all your favourite shows, including the one where Roald Dahl's grand daughter bakes a pie and then reads a little poem, in eye popping HD.

The iPlayer website works great on iPhone, but currently doesn't offer support to Apple's new tablet. That will change this Friday.

iPad's out on May 28th, in case you've been living under a rock.
