Yesterday we took a cursory glance at reports of Nintendo's inaugural Japanese launch of its latest DS hardware refresh, the super-sized DSi LL.

Its reception wasn't exactly ravenous, by all accounts, but there were still the obligatory early-adopter queues outside the game shops first thing in the morning.

More reports are now coming in from Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, which has the launch two-day weekend DSi LL figures at around the 100,000 mark. 103,524, to be precise.

The DSi LL will be rebranded as the DSi XL for its worldwide launch, as "LL" apparently means "extra large" in Japan - size being the concept behind the large form factor DSi.

While it hasn't outperformed the previous iterations of the DS hardware in launch weekend sales, it's still a reasonable success for Nintendo, demonstrating it's still got the marketing oomph to push five year old hardware in a new, bigger package.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
