With a surprising lack of fanfare, pomp or circumstance, EA has cut the ribbon on a new micro-studio that intends to concentrate on smaller, casual iPhone games called 8lb Gorilla.

From what we can tell, this could actually be a rebranding (or a splinter faction) of the EA Netherlands studio, which has been responsible for recent iPhone apps such as Star Trek (not bad), Mass Effect Galaxy (boo), The Sims 3 (hurrah!) and Lemonade Tycoon (double huzzah!).

Its first game, Zombies & Me, is out already, weighing in at just 59p and proving to be quite popular judging by the chatter on the web. The game requires you to defend your granny from a zombie attack, as the undead flesh eaters attempt to get into her house to chew on her leathery, lavender-scented pelt.

Particularly delicious (other than granny, of course) is the almost picture perfect representation of the house from Romero’s original Night of the Living Dead, which should sucker in the cultist horror junkies such as you and me.

Take a bite out of the ‘Buy It!’ button to lumber on over to the App Store and check out 8lb Gorilla’s debut game and let us know what you think. We have a good feeling about this micro-studio...

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
