Rumours of Game Boy and GBA virtual console for DSiWare

To be quite honest, Nintendo probably wasn’t the first one to come up with the notion of making classic Game Boy and GBA games available for the new DSi download service. But regardless of whose idea it was, it’s a damn good one.

According to Nintendo Everything, platinum members of Club Nintendo were invited to an event to test out the new DSi hardware, and Nintendo let slip that games from its previous hardware giants, the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance, will be coming to DSiWare.

There’s nothing official from Nintendo yet, and we’ve not had any confirmation that the retro games have been rolled out in Japan, but it seems like a pretty sensible tactic for Nintendo to shore up the DSiWare catalogue quickly (and with some decent games, too).

These nostalgic niceties will be limited to Nintendo’s first party Game Boy and GBA titles at first, however, and will be region locked (as is the nature of the DSi itself).

It seems like forever since we fired up the old GBA, so it’ll be great to take a look at its wealth of games once again. Tell Nintendo which GB and GBA games you want to see in the comments section below.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
