What's a new hardware launch without a load of complaints from consumers and the manufacturer having to issue an apology then recall and fix a load of them, eh?

Xbox 360 had the red ring of death, while Wii had remote straps that snapped, causing people to lob the things through their TVs - then they had to issue little rubber jackets for them. The PSP 3000 appears to be the latest casualty of the technical hiccup trend. Although it's yet to be seen whether it's a genuine problem or just some people on a forum whinging.

The source of the problem seems to be the new PSP 3000's brighter, anti-glare screen, which some new buyers over at the official PlayStation forums are saying produces visible scanlines and notably jagged edges on moving objects. The problem is said to occur during both FMV bits and gameplay, making games look more pixelated. One poster has provided comparison photos to illustrate the alleged problem.

According to the website Joystiq, Sony America is currently looking into the problem and will no doubt deliver a verdict soon on whether this is an issue with all units or an avoidable consequence of the new, brighter screen. Or indeed whether there is a problem at all. While we wait for Sony's reply, Sony-bashers should feel free to unleash wrath on the company's incompetence on a gaming forum of their choice.
