DS redesign rumour rears its head again

And Nintendo denies all knowledge (again)

DS redesign rumour rears its head again

DS

It's been at least three weeks since someone somewhere speculated on a redesigned DS, so god bless Kotaku for fanning the flames a little bit more.

The site is today reporting that sources outside of Nintendo have been talking to them about the updated DS.

These sources say the hardware's screens will be slightly bigger, but the big news is that both screens will be touch ones. (Which will spare confused non-gaming mums and dads who always seem to touch both screens anyway).

Word also has it that the official announcement won't be made by Nintendo until early next year.

Recently, industry watchers have speculated Nintendo will want to release an updated console in Japan first and foremost, to address the problem console sales appear to have reached their peak there and are on their way down.

If the new console's release follows quite quickly behind its announcement, early next year could be an accurate estimation of when we can expect to see a swanky new DS. Certainly there was no news from Nintendo at all at this year's E3 or at GDC, which suggests it not going to be ready to show anything in the imminent future.

Unsurprisingly, Nintendo has told industry site GamesIndustry.biz that it will not comment on these new rumours.
