The handhelds come out on top in this week's Japan hardware chart

You'll never guess which one is in first place

DS + PSP

I'll put you out of your suspense: PSP is number one in the Japanese hardware charts. Again. Having sold 56,439 units there in the week just gone.

Nothing new there, then. But what has changed from the usual scenario is the console sitting at number two. And that's the DS, which has managed the feat for the second week running, meaning its previous achievement wasn't just a blip – not least because this week it's beaten its home console cousin significantly, selling 47,455 units compared to Wii's 44,525.

So DS might be gaining some ground in Japan, but it seems there's still no match for Sony's mighty PSP. In Japan, remember. But anytime the handheld wants to repeat its success in the west, we'll be more than happy to report on it.
