Life as a cowboy sounds pretty exciting, what with all the shooting, lassooing, and brooding mountain-based man-love. Yet there's a distinct lack of Wild West mobile games.

Astraware is doing its bit to remedy that with the release of Westward, a new smartphone game based on the popular PC casual game of the same name.

You play a frontier settler, setting up camp, collecting resources, battling bandits and building a community. The game promises more than 20 levels and more than 25 different buildings to customise your town.

Oh, and there's a series of quests to complete, and a Mad Russian to hunt down. Were there many Russians in the Wild West? Ah well.

The game's out now for Palm OS and Windows Mobile smartphones, plus PDAs, and is available from Astraware's website.
