There is definitely a PSP redesign on the way. The news was confirmed yesterday by SCE UK managing director Ray Maguire.

Speaking at the launch of Sony's PSP in Education initiative, Maguire informed a room of invite-only attendees that the current PSP is the "first iteration".

Although Maguire did not give away any specifics on the next iteration of the PSP, he did comment that it would be "smaller, lighter" – and we are willing to bet our Memory Stick Duos that it will be cheaper too.

The hurricane of PSP rumours that have been flying around recently have left some unsure what to think. But the lack of any PSP mention during Phil Harrison's speech at GDC was too conspicuous for us to ignore, and to that extent Maguire's comments fit into a picture that has been emerging for 72 hours now of a PSP-in-flux.

It has already been an extremely revealing week for Sony's handheld: who knows what will have transpired by Friday. We wonder if Elvis is a pocket gamer?
