I now seemed to be addicted to Supercell's Clash of Clans.

But maybe Kabam's new city-building PVP game Arcane Empires can provide an alternative.

Sharing similar mechanics, both games have you building up a base, although Arcane Empires has a much more complex range of resources and related buildings - farms, logging centers, iron works, mines, - as well as the usual army buildings and units.

Powered by steam

Another big difference is that Kabam's game uses a more traditional 2D and menu-based interface.

Once you get used to tapping between different screens it's pretty simple to order your forces, but it does take time to get used to.

However, thanks to its previous successes on Facebook and iOS, Kabam's strategy games - such as the Camelot brand, which boast deep alliance and communication channels - certainly have a lot of fans.

Arcane Empires follows this well-worn gameplay, added a steampunk theme that includes flying submarines, mechanical attack elephants and mechagriffs.

Free-to-play for iOS and Android, you can get an idea about the game in the following video.

We'll also be providing our first impressions of Arcane Empires next week.
