EA brings Air Hockey to European phones

Looks like pucking good fun, but will it be priced to fly off the virtual shelves?

Air Hockey might not exactly be the leading edge branded sports title we've come to expect from Electronic Arts, but it does demonstrate how following its takeover of the pioneering mobile games company Jamdat, EA is getting its mobile act together and starting to put out more casual game experiences that don't demand extreme digital dexterity.

Unlike the more convoluted challenge of titles like FIFA World Cup 2006, Air Hockey is a single-button game where you control the movement of a mallet to shove the puck across the table and into your opponent's gaping goalmouth.

Promising the most "authentic experience outside of the Pool Hall", the game has three difficulty modes, a smattering of power-ups to make things more interesting and the option to play against your friends – with all hands on the same handset!

The title has already been available in the US for a while now, where unarguably the most intriguing factor is the budget price-point, currently just $1.99 from the official EA Mobile site. As yet no price has been confirmed for the European release, which is due in the next few weeks, but you can bet we'll keep a keen eye out.

In the meantime you can use the "Track It!" button above to ensure you get the review slammed your way, or use "Try It!" to link to a brief demo version.
