Wide Ocean Big Jacket, a chilled-out camping trip tale, saunters onto iOS
Another acclaimed indie arrives on mobile
First launched for PC and Nintendo Switch last month, developer Turnfollow's Wide Ocean Big Jacket is among the most well-liked indie games of 2020 so far. It follows a chilled-out camping trip attended by an aunt, an uncle, their niece and her boyfriend.
Expect a short, sweet tale where you'll do a bit of birdwatching, listen to ghost stories, perform the odd cartwheel, and munch on some tasty hot dogs. Sound like a nice time? Well, that's because it very much is, at least according to the game's many glowing reviews, quotes from which you can see in the tweet embedded below.
The big news today is that it's now available for iOS for the very reasonable price of $3.99.We're releasing "Wide Ocean Big Jacket" on iOS todayhttps://t.co/VKWrqQ95Rh Very excited for more folks to be able to play this game which we're very proud of! pic.twitter.com/SNV37YaJAh — Turnfollow (@_turnfollow) March 18, 2020
Expect a playtime of around 60-90 minutes, which sounds ideal for this sort of story. Not everything needs to be a 100-hour RPG on mobile – games like Donut County, Florence, Gorogoa, etc, have already made that clear.
The game's store page likens it to "watching a good movie with friends or curling up to read a book", which sounds pleasant given the current circumstances.
I'd obviously advise giving the trailer a watch to get a feel for its tone and sense of style.
If you're looking for something cute and positive to play, Wide Ocean Big Jacket is available as a premium title from over on the App Store. It can also be purchased from the Nintendo eShop.
