The TV do-gooder is hoping to inspire DS owners

Jamie Oliver has high hopes for his DS cooking game

If your idea of a meal tends to spin around the inside of a microwave, you might not be very interested in Jamie Oliver's upcoming game from Atari, What's Cooking? With Jamie Oliver. But it seems he's interested in it, and in gaming in general.

The celebrity chef and all-round good man himself has been talking to MCV about the game, and revealed his interest in the gaming market as well as the level of involvement he had in the game.

"Gaming is something I've been interested in for a while," Oliver said. "I love technology, and the chance to combine that with something that inspires people to cook? I find that very exciting."

"The guys from Atari came to me with an idea and we played around with it and now it's a really great piece of kit.

"I hope it will appeal to everyone from kids who are into food, young blokes who want to learn about cooking, women who are into cooking and gamers… everyone really."

According to Atari, the Jamie Oliver name is more than just a marketing tool and the chef has worked alongside Atari during development.

The game is designed as an interactive cookbook and includes over 100 original Oliver recipes as well as an interactive shopping list you can take with you to the shops.

I would write something here about hoping it's pukka, but I don't think he's used the word 'pukka' for about five years. So instead I'll just inform budding chefs that What's Cooking? is due out in October. We had a taste during E3, when we got our (clean) hands on the game, incidentally. We didn't find the recipe delicious, but there was certainly flavour in there.
