The envelope of mobile gaming is not just being pushed right now – it's being so severely stretched that the Royal Mail are considering upgrading it to a package!

Chief among the contributors to this phenomenon (and thus to blame for our rather weak postal joke) are a host of developers who seem intent on stuffing our phones with sumptuous 3D visuals that even the home consoles might be glad to receive.

Only a couple of weeks back we were overwhelmed by the splendour of FishLabs' Galaxy on Fire, shortly before that we had 3D Bomberman from Living Mobile, and a couple of months previous there was Planet Riders (also from Fishlabs).

However it was Polarbit's Raging Thunder that first pressed our 3D accelerator way back in April, and so we were doubly intrigued to hear it was back again promising to stuff the envelope even fuller (whilst simultaneously testing its absorbency) with WaveBlazer, a 3D powerboating game.

Although the static screenshots are enticing enough, we were urged to witness WaveBlazer in motion to really understand why we should get excited. Sure enough the attached video (click 'Watch It!') did a good job of wetting our appetite.

It looks impressive – like the proverbial swan, we imagine the game code must be working like crazy under the waterline to provide the wave ripples, water sprays and reflections of the detailed 3D levels that the powerboats are hammering through.

Besides good looks, WaveBlazer also promises multiplayer action against up to four friends or foes from around the world, should you tire of seeing off the AI in the Championship and Arcade modes, or yourself via beating the clock.

Provided the developer can ship this on a wide range of handsets and the handling matches the visuals, WaveBlazer could be a very special delivery indeed. Suffice to say we'll keep you posted on developments, so click 'Track It' if you want to be emailed with the latest.
