Watchmen: Justice is Coming MMO in development for the iPhone

After playing the Watchmen mobile game, I’m feeling quite reserved about any news of movie-to-game conversions, but it’s hard not to raise an intrigued eyebrow at the forthcoming Watchmen: Justice is Coming game for the iPhone. What’s particularly exciting isn’t the license, however, but the fact that it’s an MMO.

Put together by Last Legion using a brand new ‘cloudMMO’ technology, it lets you step into the heroic tights of a 1970s crime fighter and battle it out in a persistent New York City environment. You’ll start life as an average citizen, and work your way up to a feared and respected masked vigilante.

You’ll be able to create your own characters to bring justice to the crime ridden, real time 3D streets of 1975 with - apparently - thousands of other players in-game at the same time.

There’ll be five expansive environments to explore (Downtown, Red Light District, Cemetery, Financial District and City Park), each with its own story objectives to play through.

Damnably exciting stuff, and it’s scheduled for a March release on the App Store, so we should be hearing a lot more about it very shortly.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
