Gamers-only social networking site Vigster launches
Like Facebook but with video game chat instead of stupid groups

Ever wished you could meet up with and chat about video games to a bunch of 'like-minded' people? "Yes," you might say. "That's why I play on Xbox Live, read Pocket Gamer and visit video game forums".
New website Vigster, however, is here to give you an alternative to that lifestyle with a Facebook-style social networking site especially for gamers. (Do keep reading Pocket Gamer, though, won't you?)
Vigster's public beta has just gone live, meaning that you can sign up to the site, connect with friends, create virtual game shelves to show off the games you own to your friends, or rate and review titles.
That's not all. You can also create and play game quizzes, as well as share, buy and chat about – you guessed it – games, into the early hours of the morning.
At the core of the Vigster system apparently sits a social matching functionality, presumably linking you with people enjoying the same games as you are.
As well as being a social network, Vigster will also act as a resource portal for all sorts of game-related goodies, such as screenshots, videos, artwork and demos, most of which will be provided by the users themselves.
The London-based company behind the site hopes to build a community of millions. Let's just hope they've visited a few game forums as part of their research so they're prepared for how pedantic some video gamers can be. It could well just turn into a massive bun fight about whether DS or PSP is better before they all suddenly decide to bugger off elsewhere.
Still, if you're brave and like the sound of it, you'll find Vigster here.
