Jaw-dropping Uncharted NGP uses touch and tilt to control

In a video demonstration of pulpy action-adventure Uncharted running on Sony’s upcoming handheld, we get to see how the NGP’s new functionality gives you even more control over the game’s rugged hero, Nathan Drake.

Using the 5-inch touchscreen, you can make Drake leap over obstacles by tapping his back, climb up cliffs by touching the next handhold or shimmy along ledges by drawing a line with your finger. You can also perform stealth kills and pick up weapons by simply tapping the enemy or gun.

As for the unique rear-touch-panel on the console’s underside, you can stroke it with your fingers - moving from left to right - to make Uncharted’s protagonist climb up a rope. Or you can physically tilt the console back and forth to make him swing on the vine.

Finally, the gyroscopic sensor lets you aim a sniper rifle simply by moving your console in 3D space, much like iPhone 4 shooters Gun Range and NOVA.

All of those controls are completely optional, of course, and you can choose to stick to the console’s more traditional eight button and dual analogue stick control method, if you’d prefer.

The game, being developed by Resistance: Retribution maker Sony Bend, also looks rather fetching. The NGP’s powerful processor combined with a pintsize screen means it looks (from this video anyway) very similar to the PlayStation 3 title.
