American Civil War RTS Ultimate General: Gettysburg is heading to tablets

Ultimate General: Gettysburg may only be in the early stages of development, but there's already plenty to get excited about.

It's a real-time strategy game from DarthMod, who is a renowned Total War modder who has managed to cultivate a dedicated following over the last decade.

This game is set around the Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War. You can choose to play as a Union or Confederate general, and maybe even rewrite history.

Ultimate General allows DarthMod to break free from the shackles of modding. His first effort as a solo developer is to create a strategy game with much more intelligent and dynamic AI than he was previously able to.

This means that both your troops and those of the enemy can make decisions by themselves. This removes the need for micro-management, which is often an annoyance in other grand strategy games.

The game will offer lots of interesting strategies. Perhaps you'll take your infantry, cavalry and artillery to higher ground for morale bonuses, or attempt to flank the enemy for an easy win.

One of the most intriguing features of Ultimate General is the "Dynamic Campaign", which means each battle affects the next one. If you lose too many soldiers early on, your final bouts will be tough, perhaps even impossible, to win.

There's no current estimation on when Ultimate General may be ready for our tablets, but check out those screenshots for an early look at its unique graphics.
