Tony Hawk ollies onto the iPhone after all

Skateboarding video is genuine, though Activision knew nothing about it

Tony Hawk ollies onto the iPhone after all

Yesterday we took a look at a video that apparently showed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater running on an iPhone, though it was choppy enough to cause us some concerns over its validity.

Anyway, it seems SlideToPlay has heard from the team that originally ported the game to the PC, Lti Grey Matter, who says the video is genuine.

"It is completely real," Lti Gray Matter president Dan Chavez tells STP. "We developed an engine & tools to push the bleeding edge of the iPhone's limits. That's why the graphics, sound & frame rate are so good in the demo. We used THPS2 strictly as a 'test subject' and not at the request of Activision or anyone else. By the time we were through, THPS2 was fully on the iPhone and performing even better than originally anticipated.

"We have let Activision know that THPS2 is ready for QA if they want it."

So it would seem this is in fact the sequel, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, though Activision (or Tony Hawk, presumably) hasn't been involved this unofficial adaptation, which explains why it told IGN that this was a fake video and nothing was in the works.

There'll be a lot of copyrights and licenses to satisfy for the game to ever make it to release, but at least there's a possibility circling the ether.

The original video was deleted, as it was apparently only put public by mistake (it was intended to be a private demo for Activision, apparently - hmm), but fortunately Pocket Gamer reader Kaid found us another version. Cheers Kaid!

Here it is again:

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
