Thanks to the intermittent internet connection at EA Mobile’s booth in Gamescom, we were unable to see the iPhone versions of Theme Park and FIFA Superstars in action. But we did learn that both with be freemium titles.

Yes, Theme Park - the much-loved '90s management game from Bullfrog - has been turned into a social game.

From what I was told by the EA representative at the show, the game puts in charge of just one park (‘your’ park), and will feature mini-games like tapping the bouncy castle to improve enjoyment levels.

Yes, it has tap-based mini-games.

Even more disconcerting was that when we asked whether we'd be able to tamper with the salt levels in order to make our punters consume more over-priced soft drinks (with trading standards-threatening low levels of syrup), our question was met by a blank stare.

Putting aside our nostalgic outrage for a second, Theme Park for iOS will have the same look as the original Amiga version, as well as the same rides we all fondly remember. Albeit with in-app purchases and Origin.

We’re hoping to have another chance at seeing the game in action soon. On the bright side, at least Theme Hospital is safe. For now.
