The Wrapp - Frosty base building, dour discos, and more Kingdom Rush Battles
What are the Pocket Gamer team playing this weekend?

In last week's Wrapp, Will dived into the surprisingly laid back world of Fate Trigger while Dann solidified his commitment to After Inc by snapping up the lifetime season pass. Did they both spend time in those games again this week? Read on to find out! Alongside that, we also hear about Catherine's continued adventures in Kingdom Rush Battles and learn that Cristina has a new favourite base builder.

Staff WriterOver the coming weekend, there are a bunch of Origin Raids, which I will be attending in our local Pokémon Go Community. I was around when they first appeared in-game, but my Shiny luck was abysmal because I was on holiday at a water park, which doesn’t play well with phones! I will also be playing Pokémon Friends and doing my daily puzzle there, which only takes about 10 minutes a day.

Reviews EditorI’m still trying to climb up the ranks in Kingdom Rush Battles because it’s just so darn compelling, but I’ve officially hit a wall and my kingdom is now defenceless. There are still so many heroes I need to unlock, and so many towers I need to deploy - although giving up and inviting the invading orcs to my kingdom for a cup of tea instead sounds kind of nice too. Why do we fight? Why do we struggle? Why do we hurt the ones we love?
And because I’m in dire need of stress relief, I’m planning on giving Squishmallows Match a whirl over the weekend. If there’s anything that can alleviate the pain of losing to an endless horde of dangerously cute goblins over and over again, it’s squishy marshmallows.

Editor in ChiefAs with Jupiter, above, I’ll be out for some of the Pokémon Go raids, hopefully getting a Shiny, but at least getting more Candy and hopefully some more with the special move (which are like catnip to people looking to trade).
Outside of this, I’m nearly through all of the After Inc content, so I will be starting a fresh run through on the tougher difficulties to test myself. When I played through the core version, I really wasn’t too sure about exactly how wide and deep it goes. Well, I’m glad I stuck with it, there’s an absolute shed-load of extra tweaks to make and things to unlock, like the permanent buildings and different leaders (which almost serve as a difficulty tweak on their own).
I’ve also redownloaded Rise of Kingdoms as my son has returned to it, although I’m unsure how long I’ll stick with it this time. I’ve still got my kingdom from the last time he gave it a run. However, the server I’m in is well beyond the late stage now, and so it seems quite dormant. Don’t get me wrong, Rise of Kingdoms was (or, is) arguably one of the strongest mobile MMORTS out there, but it’s so far along in its live ops that the notification and events spam is a deterrent for me. That said, I really like some of the upgrades they’ve added since I last played, but we’ll have to see if that’s enough to keep me playing.

Staff WriterIt’s all go for me this weekend. Although mostly around Dungeons & Dragons. But having dropped my review of Disco Elysium last week, I’m still putting in the hours to explore Revachol.
Also, no prizes for guessing that Balatro is still a part of my weekly rotation, although I think I’ve hit something of a wall with Vampire Survivors.
What I’m certainly going to dip into is one I haven’t written about for a while now, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I’ll be making use of the CRKD Atom I reviewed a few months back for that, since the precise controls of SotN don’t necessarily translate well to a touchscreen. Either way, onwards and upwards (to the reversed castle).

Staff WriterThis weekend, I don’t have a lot of time for gaming, but I am hoping that, between the wedding preparations, I will manage to squeeze in some time to play Fate War, since it is everything I wanted from a strategy game.
I only really played it for a little while, but in that period, I managed to upgrade my base a lot, and I hope I’ll get to help my Tribe expand a bit. Oh, the magic of base builders!

Freelance WriterI have joined Cat on the field of battle for Kingdom Rush Battles. It's an uncommon competitive strategy challenge that's more about being the most efficient while taking pot shots at your opponent's setup. I'll be trying to crawl up the ranks and focus more on what I'm doing rather than what the other guy is doing. Thanks to the support of Ironhide, we hope to discover new wonders in what remains one of my favourite series out there.
There's also a bit more time for me to play Super Farming Boy and crawl out from under the dark-cloud-with-a-bowtie of capitalism!

Staff WriterI will be spending this weekend fulfilling my contractual obligation of being an uncle as my nephew visits. It will consist of whatever couch co-op experiences we can find on Game Pass or in my collection of games and consoles. I hope mobile will take me back next week after this betrayal.

Freelance WriterI’ve got a backlog of freebies and bundles that I’ve picked up over the past few months that I haven’t really touched yet, so this Sunday I’m going to spend a bunch of time going through that. Tell Me Why, a narrative adventure by Don't Nod, is right at the top of the pile, so I’ll probably start there! Their other game have somehow passed me by, really, despite a few of my friends loving Life is Strange. I’m keen to give it a go and see what the hype’s about.

Deputy & Special Projects EditorHaving held onto my Pack Hourglasses in TCG Pocket to see where the meta shifted with Wisdom of Sea and Sky, it appears that I needn't have bothered. I could have chased art rares instead. Why? Because the Charizard and Sylveon Ex decks are still reigning supreme. It's not hard to see why, either. Charizard is bulky and can accelerate energy like no other card. Sylveon, meanwhile, in combination with Professor Oak, brings unprecedented draw power to the table. That means you'll get through your deck in no time and have your Charizard fighting ready, with the appropriate backup, sooner. It's a scary deck to face, which is precisely why I'll be using it this weekend. Aside from my brief stint with Alcremie, I'm always sucked in by what's performing well in card games, mostly because I possess no deck-building creativity.
