EA Mobile has announced a new multiplayer mobile game version of Tetris, although for the moment it's only available in North America.

The game will feature several multiplayer modes, which all work over the network. You'll be able to play against your friends or random opponents, and it won't matter if you're on different mobile operators.

The game modes include Ultra, where two players race each other in a two-minute time limit, and Forty Line, where they compete to see who can clear 40 lines first.

Tetris isn't the only multiplayer game being offered by EA Mobile in the US either: similar features are in Bejeweled, EA Pool and Jamdat Bowling 2.

The big question, of course, is when us Europeans can expect to get our thumbs on multiplayer Tetris. Rest assured, we'll keep you informed of release plans on this side of the Atlantic.

Check out our recent interview with T-Mobile for more musings on multiplayer in Europe.
