Super-effective screens and details emerge for Super Pokemon Rumble

Nintendo has released a handful of screens for forthcoming 3DS title Super Pokemon Rumble, as well as some new information about the game's features.

It's a direct follow-up to the 2009 WiiWare hit Pokemon Rumble, a straightforward arcade-action game which sees you take control of wind-up toy Pokemon, battling others in real time and gradually increasing your collection.

As you progress, the Pokemon you defeat get stronger. Eventually, you’ll get one with sufficient power to qualify for the Battle Royale – a free-for-all against dozens of Pokemon in a giant ring. Winning that moves you onto the next level, where you’ll face tougher and rarer Pokemon.

Written in Black and White

The upcoming game will play much like the original, and features all-new Unova region Pokemon from the recent Black and White games, as well as those from Generations I, II, and IV in Pokemon Rumble.

The appearance of Salamence, Groudon, and Taillow in one of the published screens confirms that Generation III Pokemon will also be present, so it’s a fair bet to assume all 649 Pokemon in the complete Pokedex will be available to capture.

Super Pokémon Rumble features additional game modes not present in the WiiWare title. Pokemon Collection Battle Challenge sees you face off against all the Pokemon you’ve caught so far, while Charge Battle pits you against waves of ten Pokémon in each battle.

It’s out in Japan on July 28th. So far, there’s been no confirmation of a Western release, though it’d be a surprise if a Pokemon game – even a spin-off like this one – didn’t make it to these shores. We’ve contacted Nintendo UK for comment.
