Super Mario Odyssey tips and tricks - Guide to every moon in the Cap Kingdom

We’ve been loving Super Mario Odyssey. The new Switch title is an absolute smash, and has loads of collectables to keep you busy…

Use this guide to clean up all of the power moons hidden away in Bonneton, the Cap Kingdom, home of Cappy, Tiara and the other Bonneters.

Remember talk to Talkatoo the Parrot for moon names before you find them, and use the Hint Toad if you want a marker on your map.

1 Frog-Jumping Above the Fog

Capture a frog from the island with the Odyssey on, then move across the fog to the east of the Odyssey onto a sunken hat. Jump onto the item blocks above, jump to uncover a hidden item block, then mount that to jump for the moon.

2 Frog-Jumping from the Top Deck

Capture a frog and then jump onto the double-stack of hats in the main square. Jump and shake the controller for an extra high jump to grab the moon above.

3 Cap Kingdom Timer Challenge 1

Throw your hat on the scarecrow outside Hat Tower and long jump and roll up the hill to grab the moon.

4 Good Evening, Captain Toad!

Captain Toad will be standing on top of Hat Tower.

5 Shopping in Bonneton

Purchase a moon from the Crazy Cap store in the main square.

6 Skimming the Poison Tide

Capture the Paragoomba from the top of the bridge in front of Hat Tower. Jump off a high balcony and fly as high as you can to the back of Hat Tower, where you’ll find a door. Collect the moon icons inside for the moon.

7 Slipping Through the Poison Tide

Underneath where the moon will appear from Skimming the Poison Tide, there will be a gap in the fence where you can slip through with a Paragoomba. Climb the wall to find a moon.

8 Push-Block Peril

On Top Hat Tower among the hat ships, look for the door which will be atop some blocks. Inside will be a platforming challenge. Use Cappy to capture electrical wires and progress, and be aware of the blocks moving in and out of the wall.

9 Hidden Among the Push-Blocks

On the last row of blocks you jump over, a large L shaped block will actually be hiding a moon inside.

10 Searching the Frog Pond

To the north west of the main square, behind the stone structure, there’s a door. Inside you’ll need to capture a frog and collect moon icons to uncover a moon.

11 Secrets of the Frog Pond

Climb the platforms in the Frog Pond until you find the cloud that goes under a stone structure. Land on top of the narrow structure, and then jump up to find a moon hidden in a recess of the wall.

12 The Forgotten Treasure

Talk to a Bonneter on top of a hat in the main square to learn of his hidden treasure. Follows the instructions and investigate several areas around the Cap Kingdom, before uncovering the the moon in the location in the image, on the island the Odyssey is on.

13 Taxi Flying Through Bonneton

Capture the binoculars atop the stone structure north west of the main square and look in the sky at the hat ships - one will be long and flat. Zoom in. It’s a taxi. Stare at it long enough to uncover a moon.

14 Bonneter Blockade

The Bonneter right of the entrance to the main square is hiding a moon in his hat ship. Bring the Paragoomba from the bridge in front of hat tower to scare him off.

15 Cap Kingdom Regular Cup

The Koopa at the top of Hat Tower wants to race. Accept and win the race by jumping from the hat, using long jumps and rolls, to the objective to win.

16 Peach in the Cap Kingdom

Peach will be standing with Tiara north of the main square near some flowers.

17 Found with Cap Kingdom Art

The Hint Art near the bridge to the Hat Tower is tricky. It hints towards a moon in the Moon Kingdom. Go there in the Odyssey, it’s immediately left as you begin the Kingdom, just ground pound the space behind the mermaid, second from the left.

Moon Rock Moons

These will only be available once you’ve opened up the Moon Rock in the Cap Kingdom, which you can do after finishing the main story.

18 Next to Glasses Bridge

This sits on the sunken hat on the bridge to Hat Tower.

19 Danger Sign

Grab a Paragoomba and fly to the Danger sign behind the Odyssey - the one with the moon on it.

20 Under the Big One’s Brim

This will be lurking just under the brim of Hat Tower, at the front. Climb up and just jump off.

21 Fly to the Edge of the Fog

Returning to the platform behind hat tower, you’ll be able to see a moon in the distance that you can reach with a Paragooma. See the map here for the exact location.

22 Spin the Hat, Get a Prize

Use your hat to spin the big metal hat relief atop the entrance to the main square.

23 Hidden in a Sunken Hat

Go east from the main square with a Paragoomba to see a sunken hat with a glowing top. Throw you hat on it and hold the button to uncover a moon.

24 Fog-Shrouded Platform

On a lower platform north of the main square, near a door you have previously entered.

25 Bird Travelling in the Fog

This bird will travel around the map, you’ll be able to track him on your map screen, he’s the only mark that’s moving. You have to hit him with Cappy. We caught him off the sunken hat from the first moon.

26 Caught Hopping Near the Ship!

Use Cappy to hit the rabbit running around the hills near the Odyssey. Kick him with Mario afterwards for the moon.

27 Taking Notes: In the Fog

This is far to the west of main square, use the Paragoomba from near the bridge to activate the notes and collect them all in a row for the moon.

29 Cap Kingdom Master Cup

This is a second race against the koopas. Use the same strategy as last time to win.

30 Roll On and On

Use the Moon Rock warp pipe near the main square. Roll all the way to the end of the track to get a moon.

31 Precision Rolling

Keep left near the beginning of the rolling track to grab a moon on a narrow path.
