Stranger Things 3: The Game creeps onto the App Store and Google Play

Stranger Things 3: The Game is developer BonusXP’s second adaptation of Netflix’s hit sci-fi show. As the name might suggest, this one focuses on the show’s third season, and it forgoes the adventure-focused gameplay of its predecessor for a more action-oriented beat ‘em up experience.

You’ll spend a good deal of your time exploring the town of Hawkins, beating on plenty of demogorgons and other creatures as you go. Combat seems simple enough to work well on touchscreen devices, with basic upgrade paths for your attacks.

There are 12 playable heroes in total, all with their own special abilities to chuck around town. Some of these include jugs of green goo, an aerosol spray, and a hefty baseball bat. It also looks quite nice, with a fittingly retro aesthetic.

You might remember this one originally launched for Switch back in July, which is when we reviewed it. Dave wasn’t terribly fond of it, saying ‘it just doesn't hold up to extended play sessions. The concept and execution seems fine, but begins to drag so quickly’, before awarding it a 3/5.

It certainly sounds like it’ll please fans of the show, though random punters simply looking for a solid Zombies Ate My Neighbours-style beat ‘em up may want to reconsider whether this one is really for them.

If you’re still interested, you’ll find Stranger Things 3: The Game available now for download over on both the App Store and Google Play. It’s currently priced at £4.99, which isn’t all that bad when you consider that the Switch version costs £15.99.
