Experiment with human emotions and relationships to solve the amusing puzzles of Storyteller
One thing leads to another
Despite winning the IGF 2012 Nuovo Award - and appearing as a finalist in a few other competitions - Daniel Benmergui's Storyteller still isn't a household 'name'.
To address that fact somewhat, Benmergui plans to release Storyteller on PC and iOS devices in - admittedly later than originally scheduled - "late 2013".
In Storyteller, life and the events that occur within it are the mechanics of a puzzle.
You'll be presented with a comic book-like strip of pictures inside of which are characters and props. With these, you have to trigger a chain of events that leads to the outcome you've been challenged to create. Examples given are "make a murder of jealousy" or "a tragedy of love".
Quite often, these sequences concern love and death. Characters get jealous of relationships, murder one another, commit other crimes, or just live happily ever after. As long as the event you're aiming to effect occurs, you beat that puzzle.
It's a very simple game, with which it's easy to interact. Figuring out how each character will react to just a slight change in one of the frames takes a lot of thought, however.
Although the subject matter of Storyteller can often be quite grim, it's a lighthearted game in which the dev manages to condense the absurdity of human emotions and relationships into one gaming experience.
For that, it's an interesting game and one we hope to see on iOS before the end of the year.
