"There are many foosball apps in the App Store, but this one will blow them all away."

Not our words, but those of Stinger Games, which has just released Stinger Foosball League onto the App Store, and is clearly very confident about its prospects.

And, if you're in the market for a foosball game, this one seems to tick plenty of checkboxes.

There are single player, multiplayer and tournament modes, plus four mini-games. More important, perhaps, is the promise of physics that ensure the "lively ball ... rolls, flies, bounces, and deflects", and realistic artificial intelligence that mimics the way real people play.

In my case, that would be endless spinning my players in a way guaranteed to annoy the opposition...

Additional options come with four control methods - auto-kick method, one-touch, dual-touch and tilt - the ability to customise the camera angle, four difficulty levels, various tournament mode settings in terms of the number of games, and wi-fi and Bluetooth modes. You can also play splitscreen on-device with the iPad version.

Finally, there are four mini-games: penalty shot, penalty goalie, hardest shot and a 60 seconds goal game.

Leaderboards and achievements are supported with OpenFeint and Game Centre.

Stinger Foosball League is out now in a universal app for iPhone and iPad, priced $1.99, €1.59 or £1.49.

You can see how it plays in the following video.
