Picture this - you just started your beautiful, soothing adventure in Pelican Town, and want to create a prosperous farm filled with all sorts of crops and animals. But where exactly should you place these barns and plough the soil in order to maximise your gains and make the most out of Grandpa's (now yours) farm?

After hundreds of hours spent in Stardew Valley, we found 15 of the best farm layouts in Stardew Valley which should come in handy if you're trying to make something both aesthetic and functional. It doesn't matter if you want to focus on flower growing, animal products or just the regular crops, we have a little bit of everything for everyone! For those of you that are fans of the genre, here are the most interesting Android farming games, and of course, farming games on iOS.

Pick a farm layout based on the type of farm you start on

As you well know, there are 7 types of farms currently available in Stardew Valley:

  • Standard Farm
  • Riverland Farm
  • Forest Farm
  • Hilltop Farm
  • Wilderness Farm
  • Four Corners Farm
  • Beach Farm

Each one has its own pros and cons - some provide better resources, while others... let you chill at the beach! Regardless of which one you go for, designing its layout should be something you do from the very beginning of each season (when the crops change) or from the very start of the game.

What is considered a good and creative farm layout?

All of the creative farm designs for Stardew Valley we have shared in this article will give you some cool ideas to use on your own farm, so check them all out and pick whatever you like the most.

There is really no good or bad design since at the end of the day anything and everything can be changed and adjusted. We do have a few recommendations though, which will definitely make your life easier (at least, that's what we noticed from our several hundreds of hours of gameplay).

Try to keep a storage area where you have multiple chests divided into categories

Even if it's going to cost you some wood, you should have one chest dedicated to each craft and storage - one for fish, one for forageable items, one for high-quality crops - you get the idea. You can do that and select a matching colour for each chest to differentiate it from the others, or simply place a Wood Sign with an item representing whatever that chest holds.

Use seasonal flowers for decor!

Each season, just like crops, flowers can change too. Try planting them at the beginning of the season and use them for decoration to give your farm even more personality. Oh, and don't forget to water them too.

Pathways don't only look good - they are also functional

Each path will increase your speed when you walk on it, so don't forget to use them when designing your farm. They look good and make you faster, so they're worth spending your resources on.

Use ambient lights - Braziers, Torches, Lamp Posts

These lights are extremely important, especially during the night, so make sure to place them in key locations.

So without further ado, let's check out all the unique farm layouts we've prepared for you!

Standard Farm - layout 1

Created by Reddit user mystic-savant

This farm follows the Standard layout and has some beautiful attention to detail (such as the beehouses in the shape of a heart), but also keeps a rather "classical" farm look. It is a truly great design for anyone, no matter their skills and Stardew design knowledge.

Standard Farm - layout 2

Another beautiful Standard farm layout that is extremely practical and boasts a good, neat look too. From key areas where animals are happy, to prosperous farm plots and even a slime ranch, this farm has it all!

Standard Farm - layout 3 multiplayer

Created by Reddit user baris601

While this is a multiplayer farm, the design it follows is absolutely beautiful. The farms in the middle of the map and animal barns on the bottom make it easy to have a daily task pattern, and overall, the symmetry we see makes it also extremely soothing to play on this map.

Riverland Farm - layout 1

It is not easy to design a Riverland Farm that is both functional and looks amazing, but this player managed to do something outstanding with their Riverland Farm in Stardew Valley. If you're not sure how to design this difficult layout, this farm should give you an idea or two.

Riverland Farm - layout 2

While this Riverland Farm layout has been quite modded (at least visually - since we don't know about the functionality) it all blends in so beautifully that it's difficult to overlook it. The colours, building placement, farms, and all of the trees and little silos on the side make it a farm that looks as if it's been pulled out of a fairytale. It's beautiful.

6
Forest Farm - layout 1

Created by Reddit user ithacy

A beautiful, mystical farm with elements that bring a lot more nature into the picture, this Forest Farm is lush and functional, and features lots of little elements well-hidden within the design. The fruit trees are all located all across the map, which makes them easily accessible and adds an extra point to the decor. While the animal area is a tad small compared to other farms, it's still functional enough to make it a good farm.

Forest Farm - layout 2

With well-divided areas and lots of sheds to maximise the space, this Forest Farm is functional and beautiful for a number of reasons. While you don't have as much space for farms and other utilities as you would in a Standard Farm, by using Sheds you can store many useful features there. The animal farms on the sides fit in perfectly, and we can imagine that just taking a walk alongside this farm would be a truly relaxing experience!

Hilltop Farm - layout 1

Created by Reddit user Fairyofoz

Designing a farm layout that looks good in wintertime too is not that easy to achieve, but this player managed it. The Hilltop Farm they created resembles a winter resort, with lots of trees and simple brick paths that go very well with the layout and use of buildings.

Hilltop Farm - layout 2

With several visual mods, this Hilltop Farm is easily one of the best ones we've ever seen. The design stays true to the nature surrounding the farm by default, and it's got lots of areas that give it an enchanted vibe. That's probably because of the mods, but setting these aside, the farm has a lot of functionality as well.

Wilderness Farm - layout 1

This creative Stardew Valley farm layout is unique from so many points of view - it uses the Crystal Floor to create a star which has different farms on each corner. It's beautiful, and while it's not symmetrical like many of the other farms we've featured, it is unique and beautiful in its own way.

11
Wilderness Farm - layout 2

With many well-separated areas and beautiful, unique features (such as the giant crops) highlighted in their own individual areas, this farm looks good and has a lot of elements that can inspire players in their very own creations. It's one of our favourite takes on the Wilderness Farm layout without the use of any visual mods!

12
Four Corners Farm - layout 1

Created by Reddit user TKPete

A farm with lots of farmable land and where animals can roam free in their huge pens - it's a Four Corners Farm that feels a lot bigger than the rest, and it's actually got one of most efficient layouts (if we can even say that) out of all the farms we've listed. With Junimo Huts and Iridium Sprinklers to take some of the daily tasks away, it's efficient and it is also probably fairly profitable.

13
Four Corners Farm - layout 2

There's quite a lot going on in this layout, but all of it points in the right direction - a good, well-made farm which is functional and looks absolutely stunning. The centerpiece is the Gold Clock together with 6 chests filled with items (colour-coded, like we suggested in the intro) and each area is dedicated to some particular art or craft. It's such a beautiful farm that it's difficult not to fall in love with it.

14
Beach Farm - layout 1

Created by Reddit user jennameeps

With many, MANY diamonds and squares and other geometric shapes, this Beach Farm layout is like none other we've seen before. The new Beach Farm layout allows for a number of features that might not look that well or might not be that efficient in other farm layouts, but here they are just perfect. One such feature is the use of diamonds in the design pattern, which is not super efficient, say in a Standard Farm.

Beach Farm - layout 2

We don't often imagine a Beach Farm in Winter looking good, but here we have a clear exception - this player managed to create a beautiful farm that stays that way all throughout the year, even without the use of crops. With many elements and symmetry, as well as viable foraging areas and animal sheds, this farm is the ideal beach farm for any player looking to spend some quality relaxing time in Stardew Valley.
