A couple of days earlier than expected, French indie development team The Game Baker has launched the much-anticipated Squids, its underwater squad-based RPG for the iPhone.

In Squids, you take control of a team of heroic cephalopods - chosen from four distinct classes - and battle hordes of corrupted sea creatures in turn-based encounters.

Moving your squiddy squad around the underwater kingdom is a breeze: you simply grab a tentacle and give it a stretch to catapult your mollusc warrior through the murky depths.

For those iPad- and Android-wielding gamers feeling slightly left out, no need: The Game Bakers will be bringing Squids to these devices ‘soon’.

Squids is available to download now from the App Store, priced at 69p / 99c.
