Despite Twitter's efforts to maintain its simplistic micro-blog status, the fact that games and applications are pouring onto it suggest it might soon be forced to re-evaluate its position on the web.

Games like iList's Spymaster have become viral gaming phenomenons, with a host of clones popping up every day. The online RPG strategy game is now being converted to the iPhone, where social RPGs are already immensely popular.

As popular as Spymaster has become, it's also drawn its share of criticism due to the large number of automatic tweets it saturates players streas with, prompting a call from a lot of users to allow them to filter out certain messages.

But there's no denying the game's popularity, either, which was put together by social classifieds service and Craig's List competitor, iList. The proliferation of spies, spymasters and spy rings now flooding onto Twitter could prompt the micro-blog to finally accept its status as a full-on, social networking platform.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
