Sonic Team delays all versions of Sonic 4 to get iPhone version right

GamerZines is reporting that Sonic The Hedgehog 4’s delay, on all platforms, is due to the iPhone edition’s troubled development.

Originally planned for release on downloadable services PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, WiiWare, and iPhone this summer, Sonic The Hedgehog 4 has now been pushed into the winter.

The problem has been with trying to get a parity in features and levels across all platforms. The iOS edition refused to play ball with its home console buddies.

"The team wanted the game to work really well on the iPhone with the same stages and the same kind of mechanics as the console versions,” says Sonic Team's Takashi Iizuka, “but it didn't really work the way the team imagined.”

The studio has since decided to work on changing the stages of the console editions to be better playable on the controller, and keep the iPhone version closer to the original design.

The downloadable games are still planned for release this year, but won’t see the light of day until winter.
