Sega talks Sonic 4’s infamous mine cart stage

Earlier this year, Sonic The Hedgehog 4 wasn’t having the best PR campaign. First, a super early build of the game was leaked by pirates, which was received to ferocious criticism. And then a bafflingly awful mine cart level was shown on Gamespot’s On the Spot video show.

It wasn’t the best first impression for Sonic fans.

Speaking with Destructoid on the E3 show floor, Sega brand manager Ken Baloughs said, "It's unfortunate that such an early build of Sonic 4 was made more public than we liked.” The team is always ready to take fan feedback on board, but with such an early showing of the game being mocked, “some of the criticism was relevant, a lot of it wasn't anymore.”

As for the mine cart stage? “The reality is that the game we have today is very different from that.”

Good. Sonic The Hedgehog 4 will hit Xbox Live Arcade, iPhone and iPad this summer.
