Latest game from Journey and Flower developer

Sky: Children of the Light floats onto the App Store from the heavens above

Sky: Children of the Light has been a long time coming. It was first announced all the way back in 2017, with a few delays pushing its release date further and further back. Now, however, the latest game from thatgamecompany, developer of classic indies like Journey, Flower, and Flow, has popped up on the App Store in free-to-play form.

It’s said to be a beautifully-animated adventure through an enchanting kingdom called Sky. The idea is that you’ll play alongside others, perhaps even friends and family, to spread hope throughout what has long since been a rather desolate land. The goal is not only to liven things up but to return fallen Stars to their old constellations.

Gameplay is pretty simple, with easy-to-use controls and a low level of difficulty making it accessible to almost anyone. You’ll soar around 7 dreamlike realms in order to gradually piece together a mystery, and there are spirits to save and treasures to seek out and claim while you're at it.

Much like Journey before it, Sky: Children of the Light allows you to meet up with other random players to socialise and adventure together. The spontaneous nature of its multiplayer, if its anything like Journey, will hopefully bring out the best in us lot and inspire everyone to help each other out. I like the sound of the gift candles which you can use to “share appreciation and grow friendships”. How cute.

You can also customise your lovely avatar with a variety of cosmetic options. And this is still very much a free-to-play mobile game, so there are IAPs aplenty, seasonal events, and what the developer is calling “an ever-expanding world”.

If you’re liking what I’m saying, you can head over to the App Store now to download Sky: Children of the Light for free.
