First real-time Android vs iPhone game launches with SGN's Skies of Glory
The difference: iPhone version free, Android $4.99
A couple of games have already included direct iPhone and Android multiplayer.
Com2uS's Homerun Battle 3D includes iPhone, Android and Samsung bada real-time multiplayer connectivity, but as that's limited to head-to-head scores and some animation trickery, so doesn't really count compared to the features of SGN's Skies of Glory.
Get connectedThe 3D free-to-play shooter launched on iPhone late in 2009, but now you can take to the skies in WWII aircraft on your Android device too - well as long as it's running Android 2.0 i.e. EVO 4G, Nexus One, Droid etc.
Indeed, SGN seems to be playing up the OS rivalry, saying that Android players will be able spot, engage and shoot down iOS players, and vice versa.
However, there are some differences. Notably you can get an iPhone version of the game for free (there's also a $6.99 premium version), while the Android version of Skies of Glory (currently only available in the US it seems) costs $4.99.
"Smartphones are becoming accessible to all, and we are really excited to offer a true multi-platform, multiplayer social mobile gaming experience through Skies of Glory," said SGN CEO Randy Breen.
"As more and more people connect with family and friends through gaming, we continue to facilitate that connection regardless of users' device or platform preferences."
Skies of Glory is the first game to use SGN and development partner Revo Studios' Open Platform Multiplayer Framework, which supports a variety of platforms and connections including EDGE, 3G and wi-fi.
