The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition arrives on the iPad

LucasArts’s classic point 'n' click adventure The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition has landed on the iPad App Store, bringing with it scores of critical acclaim and the same excellent control system adapted from Monkey Island 2.

The Secret of Monkey Island is the first in the critically lauded series that sees Guybrush Threepwood, trainee pirate, take on the ghost-pirate LeChuck for the first time.

The graphics, as in Monkey Island 2, have been buffed and sparkled to fit the larger resolution screen of the iPad. There’s still the option of switching to the original, blocky (but nostalgic) original graphics should the revised ones not hit the spot.

Monkey Island Special Edition secured a Pocket Gamer Platinum Award when it first appeared on the iPhone, so it’s safe to say that the new controls and higher resolution graphics should make this a highly recommended game for the iPad.

The game appears to be part of the wider sale of the iOS Monkey Island games, as it’s currently available for £2.99 / $4.99 / €3.99 along with its sequel.
