After being announced only a few weeks ago, the indie endless runner Scrap Divers has officially launched onto mobile devices courtesy of Gearhead Games. After Retro Highway was released a good ways back, this is only the second project from the studio, and looks like quite an endearing runner if you’re into the genre.

Scrap Divers sees you take on the role of a contestant within a dangerous underground sport set in a dystopian robot society. In this sport, players essentially dive down a series of infinite tunnels with the promise of treasure that will make them rich beyond their wildest dreams depending on how long they survive the final tunnel, which extends forever.

These tunnels are, of course, filled with hundreds of deadly traps and hazards that range from giant sawblades flying out of the walls to pillars of flame, spikes, and more. As an actual player, you’ll be controlling your character as they fall through these tunnels and dodging or weaving for them, attempting to survive everything thrown at your chosen robot.

There is a roster of 15 different robots available upon launch, and each has unique abilities that will make surviving these traps that much easier. These can range from shields that can take a hit or two to swifter dodge moves and more. Every robot plays differently, so you’ll have to find your favourite and utilize their skills to truly go the distance.

While tunnels may seem a rather bland environment to be playing within, Scrap Divers makes it more interesting with a really lovely 16-bit art style and 8 different levels to make your way through. These are each complemented by a retro, chiptune original soundtrack that will keep your blood pumping and make the fall that much more exciting as well.

Whether you're a fan of the sci-fi setting or the endless runner genre itself, Scrap Divers is set to be your next big addiction, up there with the leagues of Temple Run or Subway Surfers. If you’d like to give it a go yourself, you can check it out at either of the links below!
