After launching back in September on PC and Nintendo Switch, the pacifistic-based survival game Residual, developed by Orangepixel, is set to come to mobile later this year. Residual sees you take on the role of a pilot who crash lands onto a randomly generated planet and is forced to scavenge and slowly rebuild their ship to escape from this dangerous new area.

You might be wondering where the pacifist portion of the game comes in with that description. Well, where a normal survival game may have you crafting progressively stronger armour and weapons over time to do battle with threats, Residual is all about avoiding danger and navigating around it.

You won’t be wielding any crazy laser guns or rocket launchers here. Instead, Residual prefers to focus on exploration, crafting, and puzzle solving as opposed to combat. This gives the game its own identity in a market where survival games are primarily combat-focused and offers up a bit more of a relaxing experience that won’t have you worrying about difficulty levels or getting too stressed.

With that being said, this is still a survival game at its core, and you can expect to be put in some pretty nerve-wracking scenarios on this alien planet and its strange technology. As you carefully work your way from the surface of the planet to the innards that hide tons of secrets and crafting materials, you’ll creep around dangerous robots and other hazards while you slowly piece together what exactly this alien world is hiding.

All in all, Residual seeks to be a different kind of procedurally generated survival game and is definitely one for mobile gamers to keep an eye on. Residual will launch on September 8th of this year, and you can pre-order the iOS version ahead of time right now!
