Revelations producer motivated to make another Resident Evil title for the Nintendo 3DS

Resident Evil Revelations producer Masachika Kawata has revealed in an interview with IGN that the success of his monster-filled 3DS outing has inspired him to create another instalment of the infamous horror franchise for Nintendo's handheld.

"The incredibly positive fan reaction to Revelations has definitely given me motivation to make another 3DS RE title," Kawata said.

"I have some ideas in mind. However, I have a lot of other projects that need to be taken care of first."

Fear not, though: an all-new Resident Evil title for the 3DS may not be as far off as the statement above would have you believe.

"I must admit. Hearing players say how much they enjoyed Revelations does kind of make me want to forget the other projects and get stuck right into making another RE game for fans to enjoy (laughs)," Kawata remarked.

The approach

IGN asked Kawata whether the commercial success of Resident Evil Revelations, which has more of a survival-horror focus than some of its predecessors, has encouraged him to adopt the same approach for future instalments.

"Of course. Game development is always a very taxing process, no matter what the project, and the only thing that gets us through is the belief that, at the end of the journey, there are people waiting to enjoy the game," Kawata stated.

"So if a game sells particularly well, then we have good reason to make more titles like it."

Keep your fingers crossed that a new title featuring Chris, Jill, and the rest of the gang makes an appearance sooner rather than later.
