Reset Earth is an upcoming challenging platformer designed to educate children on climate change
Next month on 10th February, the United Nations Ozone Secretariat is releasing a mobile game called Reset Earth, which is designed to teach children and adolescents about the fundamental role the ozone layer plays in protecting the planet.
Reset Earth is a singleplayer platformer which combines retro-style graphics with hand-drawn artwork. In it you switch between characters and utilise their unique abilities in four levels which explores the impact of climate change and importance of the ozone layer. By unlocking puzzles, players learn about ecological history and the science of protecting the planet.
The platform has already launched in the form of an animation film which explores options for collective positive action, with the plot of the film continuing in interactive form once the mobile game releases next month.
The ozone layer is a vital natural tool in regulating the planet’s temperature, with ozone-depleting substances accounting for 11% of total warming emissions to date. Communities have acted to protect the ozone layer by banning or restricting these materials.
“The protection of the ozone layer cannot be considered a done deal,” says Meg Seki from the Ozone Secretariat. “It must be a continuous effort by us and by future generations. If our children learn about the grim consequences of a ruined ozone layer through a fantasy cartoon and game app, they will be aware of its importance and protect it.”
